How is family planning framed in American culture? As a politicized term, family planning becomes a euphemism for birth control and abortion services rather than a signifier for choice. Situated to the left of another euphemism--family values--family planning runs the risk of being marginalized in political and legal battles, even as the vast majority of Americans support its basic goal: to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies.
